ELISE SMALL

I am an East-London designer whose
practice is rooted in making, observation,
and collaboration. My approach begins
with the garment itself — understanding
how clothes are constructed, altered, and
brought to life through pattern cutting, hand
sewing, and finishing. Having worked across
multiple Central Saint Martin’s graduate collections,
I am comfortable moving between concept and
execution, supporting design decisions while
remaining attentive to detail, craft,
and material behavior.

My experience spans both menswear and
womenswear, allowing me to think fluidly across
silhouettes, proportions, and bodies. I am
particularly interested in how garments move and
perform in real space, informed by my
work in styling, movement direction,
and campaign production. This has shaped a design
perspective that considers not only how a piece looks,
but how it is worn, photographed,
and understood culturally.

Alongside studio-based design work,
I have developed a strong understanding of the
wider fashion ecosystem through editorial
styling, e-commerce, and production roles.
These experiences have given me an
awareness of deadlines, collaboration,

As the founder of an independent project,
I value self-initiative and adaptability, combining
creative direction, branding, and
production with hands-on making.
Overall, I am a designer who values
craft as much as communication — someone
who works intuitively but precisely,
and who sees design as a conversation
between construction,image, and the body.

As a student I feel strongly about the responsibilty
of us as upcoming designers to tackle waste
and find new innovative ways to sustain a currently
unstainable industry. In my own practice I tend to use
second hand materials or materials I have been
gifted that otherwise would be thrown away. My
approuch to textile design especially are solutions
to using my waste from sewing the main shell of
the garments.
